One of the things I want you to get focused on in 2014 is how easy it is to build relationships that turn into JOBS by using social media. How do you build relationships on social media?
Facebook & YouTube
1. Commenting on people’s posts
2. Liking their posts
3. SHARING their posts
Twitter
1. Re-tweeting their tweets
2. Replying to their tweets
And I’d appreciate it, if you started practicing on mine. Here’s how it works. You watch my video, you leave a comment, press a thumbs up (if you like it), and then you share it. The buttons on YouTube make it really easy. Or if you see it posted on my FB page you can share it from there.
Here’s why you build relationships by doing this:
1. I see who shares and comments
2. I remember who shares and comments on a regular basis
3. We build a relationship from strangers to friends
4. One day you need me to share something or want to be considered for a job I’m producing. Because I now have a relationship with you on social media, you are no longer a stranger (cold call) you are now someone I “know” even if it’s only virtually.
I worked with an extremely talented episodic director on a commercial. He’d never seen me act, but we had a relationship (that I initiated) on Facebook. One day he saw me giving a keynote and walked up afterwards and asked if I was available for his commercial. It was the first time we’d met in person, yet because of social media, we felt like we knew each other for a long time.
This is the present and the future. Social media is here to stay and it’s a REALLY good thing for you, for both free marketing and creating the relationships that lead to work. I promise to help those of you through this, who are still unsure, because I don’t want you to miss out on all of the possibilities and opportunities.
