IT'S CHRISTMAS, CAROL

The Three Commitments

What do you do when you’re flat on your back for over a week, with no strength to be productive, and it happens to be the end of November?  Watch Hallmark Channel holiday movies.  In It’s Christmas, Carol, a ruthless tycoon Carol, is visited by the ghost of her old boss, played by Carrie Fisher, on Christmas Eve to help her change her ways.

I watched this film, and a few other Christmas Carol takeoffs in between A Cookie Cutter Christmas, A Royal Christmas, and many other DVRd delights.  I am guessing that’s why sometime in the middle of the night when my temperature was 103, my mind started playing tricks on me. (Does yours ever do that?) I started imagining worst case scenarios and I was freaking myself out, so I was once told if you wake up from a bad dream, immediately, create a happy ending to it so you won’t go back into it.  As, I was already awake, the story teller in my subconscious came out front and center and went Scrooged on me. An older man, beard, kind of Harry Potterish, took me on my journey, and the story was, “If I were to die tonight, here’s what I would regret from my past, wish I’d done in my present, and what I’d miss out on in my future. It was very vivid and I actually felt transported. I don’t remember falling asleep after the journey, but when I awoke, my fever had broken and I remembered the journey vividly, though I can’t picture the man’s face.  I knew I had to do something, so I got a pad and paper and here’s what I did…

I call it the 3 Commitments. After what I experienced, I knew a major block from my past, present and future. These are deeply personal to me, so I’m not going to share them, what I will say is, I feel I was given a gift. I made a commitment to remedy a block from my past.  I made a commitment to how I’m going to push myself further in my present with a fearlessness I’ve never expressed before, and if the future I saw is even somewhat accurate I am committed to getting out of my way and allowing it to happen. These are my 3 commitements.

You don’t need a fever to experience this exercise. The fever tapped me into my unconscious and revealed what I already knew but was repressing.  You can reach that same deep level of tapping into your unconscious, by getting into a very relaxed, meditative state. Perhaps, on a night when you’re so sleepy that as you lie in your bed, you easily slip into that state. Once there, imagine yourself going through a gate. Someone is there to greet you and take you on your journey.  Allow them to show you what you’re holding onto from your past, what you should be doing in your present, and what’s possible in your future.  Then, if you can avoid falling asleep, jot down a few notes that will trigger your memory in the morning.

AND ACTION!

In the morning when it's fresh in your mind, get clear on your 3 blocks and then create your 3 commitments.
1. Commitment for your past:
2. Commitment for your present:
3. Commitment for your future:

Of course in the span of an evening, Carol sees the errors of her ways and makes amends.  Now is the time to seize the life you truly want from the inside out.
