Pump Up The Volume

I am having so much fun with another brand I’ve launched. One of the things I’ve always taught my clients is to create multiple streams of income. Being in the entertainment industry means work isn’t always steady, but it doesn’t mean your income can’t be (more on how to create multiple streams of income coming up in July).

As the CEO of my own company (as you are of yours), I invest in myself. ABL, as one of my coaches says (Always Be Learning). After investing in new programs, I take what I’ve learned and show you how it can apply to your career. Today, I’m going to address a marketing technique called Podcasting. You may or may not have heard of it, but people in the entertainment industry are using it including: Adam Carolla, Will Sasso, Chris D’Elia, Brayn Callen, Nerdest Wrtiter’s Panel, The Art of Photography, and television shows like Mad Men and Game of Thrones.

I launched mine, Finding Happily Ever After this month. When I publicized it on Facebook I warned… “Be prepared to learn more about me than you ever wanted to know.” It’s comedic in nature, with business/relationship/health Dos and Don’ts, targeted to high achieving women. Of course I still have my male fans and they review along with the women. Here are two:

What's not to love about Jessica and her podcast? She shares relatable stories and talks to you like she is sitting next to you. She clearly has experience and you feel like you are listening to your BFF. I definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to have a laugh, cry or just discover how to live a better life!

Today’s blog is about how you can use podcasting to market yourself to get work, and how sharing yourself will lead to job offers. This may not be one you’re ready to follow through on now, so save it, because very soon, podcasting will be as common as the marketing tools you’re using today.

Are you revealing too much about yourself?

Hard Harry is Mark’s (played by Christian Slater) pirate deejay name. He is a shy student who just moved to a new school, but behind the name and the microphone, he becomes a hero and inspiration to his peers.



In the past, I’ve written articles on blogging, Facebook, Instagram, and various other tools to market yourself. The latest technology to take off as a marketing tool is podcasting. I particularly like this one for people in the entertainment industry. Here’s why and how it can help you:



1.   It’s done from home: The majority of people I work with say they are “shy” or don’t like to network in person. By podcasting, you can be yourself, share your expertise, ideas, advice, stories, without having to leave you’re home.

2.   It creates Expert Status: Let’s face it, this newsletter goes out to thousands of people but only a few will ever launch a podcast giving them Expert Status. Do you want to be seen as an expert at your craft? If so, this may be a great tool for you.

3.   There are so many styles: You can decide what style works for your business and personality. There are comedy podcasts (an actor, comedienne or writer could create), arts podcasts (photographers, editors, costumers, etc.) education podcast (you can talk about your area of expertise and interview others in your field- which helps with creating relationships), music podcasts (for composers, musicians, music supervisors) and TV & Film podcasts (for anyone who wants to talk about TV & Film).

4.   People get to know you without meeting you: By sharing your stories and expertise with your audience, you are also sharing yourself. Believe me, people reeeeeealy get to know me on mine. It may be more than some would like, but those who resonate with my personality and stories will know who’s showing up when they call me in for a job.

5.   It makes you stand out: As I said, this is not a tool being used in our industry by the majority, so if you get in early on this, you will stand out.



The beauty of a podcast is that people really get to know you and when that happens it leads to work. Why? People want to work with people they know. Have you ever watched someone on TV and felt like you “knew” him or her because of how much was shared? That’s a good thing.
