How To Succeed In The Entertainment Industry When You're Losing Hope


After coaching so many people in the entertainment industry, and speaking all over the world, I've met a lot of people who say to me, "Jessica, this just wasn't where I thought I'd be at this point in my life." They feel discouraged and are losing hope of achieving success in their career and it is affecting their whole life; family, health, finances, etc.  Today's video addresses this issue, plus I have a few more words on the subject...



Maintaining hope and faith in your career can be a challenge, so here are four things you want on your checklist for maintaining your hope:

1. Maintain financial stability.  This means making enough money to feel comfortable and it's okay if you make that money doing something other than your craft.  When you maintain financial stability, it gives you peace of mind.  When you have peace of mind you are in a much better mindset to create the relationships which will lead to work and money from your craft.

2. Live for today. Many people put off getting married, having a family, traveling, and other dreams for fear they will miss out on "the" opportunity that will catapult them to success.  Having a balanced life where you have other things that make you happy with again, give you the peace of mind and support you need to be ready for that opportunity.  We work in an abundant industry where opportunities are always going to be available.  Live your life and your career will benefit.

3. Take consistant, fulfilling action. When you are waiting for you career to "happen" you lose hope. Why? Because, it doesn't "just happen" you have to make it happen.  Think about any other industry where people want to succeed.  They don't wait for things to happen, they make it happen.  Taking actions that you find fulfilling, will keep your hope alive.  

4. Practice Gratitude. That's right, practice.  It doesn't come naturally to people who focus on what's not going right in their lives and careers.  Everyday, take some time to focus on what you're grateful for and when you're losing hope, remember what you have to be grateful for.  And if you think you have nothing to feel grateful for, you have eyes to read this which means you can see.  Start with feeling grateful for that. We forget that we have a lot of things to be grateful for that we don't have to think about like our ability to breathe, that our heartbeats without us having to do anything, that we have senses that give us abilities to enjoy life in ways that others can't.
